Zones & Zone Maps
Flexibility with the Zone Tariff
The zone tariff allows unlimited travel within the selected zones during the ticket's validity. You can freely use trains, buses, trams, and even boats in Zurich.
The Z-Pass area is divided into corridors (ZVV and one neighboring network) and operates on a zone-based tariff system. For a journey from point A to point B, you purchase a zone ticket rather than a route-specific ticket. Within the selected zones and validity period, you can travel freely. Please note the restrictions of the validity area and check the relevant information before starting your journey. The ticket price is determined by the number of zones selected.
Zones and Time on Your Ticket
The zones and validity duration are printed on your ticket. When purchasing from a ticket machine, enter your starting and destination points, and the system assigns the appropriate zones. Your journey always spans one or more zones, which you can verify using the zone maps.
Unlimited Travel
Within the selected zones, you can take as many trips as you like until the ticket expires. Your final journey must be completed before the validity period ends.
Urban Zones
The urban zones Zurich (Zone 110) and Winterthur (Zone 120) count as two zones each due to their denser public transport networks compared to other areas. Please note validity restrictions and verify details before your trip.
Exceptions in the Z-Pass Area
Some transport companies within the Z-Pass area do not participate in the Z-Pass tariff system and require their own tickets.
Examples of non-participating companies:
- Ägerisee Schifffahrt AG
- Morschach–Stoos Cableway (LMS)
- Rigi Railway (RB)
- Hallwilersee Shipping Company
- Zugersee Shipping Company
- Untersee and Rhein Shipping Company (URh)
- Züri-Rhy Shipping Company
- Walensee Shipping Company
- Stoos Railways (Schwyz-Stoos AG)
Be sure to check the specific requirements of these companies before traveling.
