Important committees

The ZVV, as a key player in the public transport sector and a cantonal company, balances the interests of various stakeholders, navigating between political entities and transport companies.

The nine-strong Transport Council of the Zurich Transport Network is responsible for business and budget management for the ZVV. The Council comprises representatives of the Canton, the cities of Zurich and Winterthur, the municipalities, the SBB and the federation.

Within the scope of credit arrangements approved by the Cantonal Council, the Transport Council is responsible for delivering a coordinated, freely accessible transport network based on business principles and offering a standard fare structure. It is accountable for business and budget management on behalf of the ZVV Transport Network. The Transport Council rules on all business activity which has a bearing on the activity of the Transport Network and which is not expressly the preserve of the Governing Council or its directorates.

In the Canton of Zurich, twelve regional transport conferences coordinate the planning of the services offered and timetable changes.

The 160 municipalities of the Canton of Zurich are organised into 12 regional transport conferences (RTCs). The RTC meetings coordinate matters of concern to the municipalities represented in respect of all public transport issues, and in particular those relating to the planning of the services offered. In the timetabling process, the RTCs play a key role in providing information about and communicating planned timetable changes. The RTCs usually convene twice a year.
